Round 2 of the 2026 Quattro Group British Supersport Championship proved a landmark weekend for McAMS Yamaha, with Ben Currie taking the Yamaha R9’s maiden race victory in Race 1, Lincolnshire’s Harry Truelove completing a team double podium in third, and Brad Ray delivering two encouraging fourth-place finishes in the premier British Superbike Championship.
Friday at Donington Park delivered promising signs for the McAMS Yamaha R9 duo in the Quattro Group British Supersport championship. Continuing to work in unison to develop the all-new package, Currie and Truelove finished P2 and P7 respectively in combined practice – with Currie just 0.022s adrift of the top spot after a finely-margined end to the day. Heading into Saturday, the leading three were separated by less than a tenth of a second.
As qualifying got underway, Currie claimed a second consecutive front row start for the opening race of the weekend, with teammate Truelove lining up in fifth.
The opening day of action at the Leicestershire venue in the British Superbike Championship presented challenges for Brad Ray and the team, with an early Free Practice 1 crash hampering performance throughout the day. Despite the setback, the 29-year-old secured a place in Saturday’s Qualifying 2 session, posting a 1:27.364 to sit within the top ten in pre-qualifying.
Swiftly diagnosing the issue, Ray and the team headed into Saturday with renewed confidence, going on to qualify on the third row with a 1:26.756, his fastest lap of the 2.49-mile circuit ahead of the opening 20-lap race of the weekend.
As the lights dropped on Race 1, Ray produced an encouraging opening stint, fighting firmly inside the top ten after a drama-filled first lap. He brought the R1 home in seventh, while a 1:27.288 earned him a fourth-place spot on the grid for Sunday’s Sprint Race.
Over in the Supersport race, Currie and Truelove made an exceptional start from second and fifth respectively, leading the pack through the opening stages.
Demonstrating impressive pace at the front, Currie and rival Luke Stapleford made a break from the field with Truelove running third in their wake.
The battle for victory went down to the final corner of the final lap, Currie executing a decisive overtake to claim both his first win of the season and a historic debut victory for the R9 in the national series. Truelove held firm in third to seal a team double podium and claim his first top 3 finish of 2026.
The team headed into Sunday at Donington Park with optimism, and with a fourth-place start for the 12-lap Sprint secured, Ray took to the grid in high spirits.
When the lights went out, a strong launch put him in podium contention. Fending off persistent pressure from Leon Haslam, Christian Iddon and Rory Skinner throughout, he brought the R1 home in a hard-fought fourth place.
That form carried into the final 20-lap race of the weekend. Starting from fourth once more, a bold getaway saw him hold position through a closely contested opening few laps before settling into his rhythm.
Ray rode a composed race from there, tracking the podium battle closely before taking the chequered flag in fourth – just 1.4 seconds outside the top three. He heads away from Leicestershire fourth in the championship standings, with Scotland’s Knockhill circuit next on the horizon.
Sunday’s Supersport race proved a more challenging affair for Currie and Truelove. Starting from the front of the grid, a mechanical issue left Currie with a jump start and a double long lap penalty to serve.
Refusing to be deterred, the Australian fought back impressively to take fourth at the flag having dropped outside the top ten while serving both penalties.
Truelove’s afternoon was cut short by a mechanical issue in the opening stages – a frustrating conclusion to a race in which he had led the field through lap one.
The pair leave Donington Park third and ninth in the standings respectively, with attention now turning to Knockhill on 19–21 June.
