McAMS Racing Claim Podium on Sunday at Donington Park

Sunday’s track action at Donington Park saw McAMS Racing and Danny Kent storm to a second place finish in the third and final race of the weekend, narrowly missing out on their debut win in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

Sunday’s action started off in positive spirit for Kent and the family-run outfit, having made steps forward in morning Warm-Up to find themselves in a good place ahead of the second race of the weekend.

Starting from third on the grid, Kent slipped back to fifth on the opening lap, managing to stay latched onto the front-runners to later make an attack on fourth.

Hunting down a spot in the top 3, the rider from Tetbury made a move on championship contender and Yamaha R1 counterpart, Kyle Ryde on the fourth lap of 12.

Kent’s plan to push ahead was interfered with by Ryde, who reclaimed his spot in the top 3, pushing Kent back to fourth in the running.

Despite his best efforts during the closing stages of the race, the Yamaha R1 rider crossed the line in fourth, narrowly missing out on a first podium of the weekend.

The #52 rider retained his spot on the front row for the third and final race of the weekend, sitting second on the grid ahead of a 20-lap charge to the line.

Following a similar pattern as in Race 2, Kent slipped down to fifth to latch himself onto the back of the leading group, later picking off Andrew Irwin for fourth on Lap 4 of 20.

Danny continued to make progress just a handful of laps later, entering the podium positions to briefly hold third place throughout Lap 8.

Settling into a rhythm back in fourth, Kent made another attack on third at the Old Hairpin, with eyes fixed firmly on the leading two.

The former Moto3 World Champion needed just a single lap to make an attempt on second, producing a carbon copy of his overtake at the Old Hairpin on the previous lap.
With under half race distance remaining, eyes in the McAMS Racing garage fixed to the screens, as the prospect of a debut Bennetts BSB victory entered the minds of the family-run squad.

Demonstrating an ability to stay glued to the rear wheel of race leader, Kyle Ryde, a red flag stoppage on the penultimate lap prevented an attempt on the lead, leaving Kent to take second place after a hard-fought battle at the front.

After a positive weekend, himself and the Yamaha powered crew progress to fourth in the championship standing, filling their heads with confidence ahead of the much anticipated 2024 season finale in two weeks.

“It’s been a good weekend. Thanks a lot to the team for giving me a competitive package that was capable at fighting at the front. It feels great to be able to repay them with a podium. I feel like we missed the opportunity to win that final race, I had a plan of attack but unfortunately wasn’t given a chance to carry it out and make a final attack for my debut win. I hope all riders involved in the reg flag incident are okay. From here, we head towards Brands Hatch with as good feeling.”

“This weekend was a positive one. Aside from the mistake we made in Race 1, we fought consistently towards the front and showed again that we are capable of being present at the sharp end. It was great to also progress to fourth in the standings, let’s focus on the next two weeks and head to Brands Hatch with the aim of ending the year on a strong note. One more to go, let’s stay focused and work towards another set of good results in the final round.”
