Productive Start for McAMS Racing at Donington Test
The McAMS Racing by Mar-Train Yamaha team hit the track at Donington Park this weekend for the first official test of the 2024 Bennetts British Superbike season.
The two-day test was a process of getting up to speed for both rider and team, with clear progress made across each session with Danny Kent ending the weekend seventh on the combined time classification with a fastest lap of 1’28.664.
Turning up for what was their first outing since last December, the team enjoyed a healthy period of track time throughout both days, despite high winds and occasional rain showers.
The weekend also saw the newly formed McAMS Racing by Mar-Train squad unite for the first time. A host of new faces in the recently established team provided a great sense of coming together with round one lying just around the corner.
It’s wheels up for McAMS Racing by Mar-Train next week, as they head to the Circuito de Navarra in Spain for a further three days of testing, before the much-anticipated season opener at the Northern Spanish circuit between 20-21 April.

“It’s been a successful first test for us as a team. We made some good changes throughout the weekend, and I feel like I’m starting to adapt to the Yamaha R1. It took me a few laps to get used to it but towards the end, I started to understand the best way to ride it. I’m looking forward to spinning some more laps in Spain and spending some more time with the team. The personnel that we’ve got in the team are experienced, so it’s been good. I’ve not found the maximum capabilities of the bike just yet, but l’m looking forward to getting there.”

“This weekend has been the first time that the new team have come together properly. Everything is so different this year, so it was useful to see how Danny works. From the lap times that he was doing, we can tell that he’s making progress. The weather has been far from good with the high winds, but overall, we’re pleased with how it’s gone. Danny’s feedback has been good. He still has to work on adapting his riding style to suit the characteristics of the R1, but after getting a good amount of saddle time this weekend, he’s given the team a direction to work in. We’ll aim to build on the progress we’ve made as we look ahead to testing in Spain. Our goal for the Circuito de Navarra is to get Danny more used to riding R1. It’s a very different motorcycle from what he’s been used to previously, so we need to ensure that he works towards its strengths.”
