Introduced to the market in 2025, the Yamaha R9 is a new generation of Supersport machine. The 890cc triple cylinder model is the next in the line of Yamaha’s iconic Supersport models – replacing the formidable R6 after 25 years of competition.
Despite its short lifespan, the race-modified Supersport model has wasted no time establishing itself as a proven front-runner at the highest level – making an immediate statement in the 2025 FIM Supersport World Championship.
In its debut season, in the hands of Italian Stefano Manzi and the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing squad, the R9 delivered a year to remember. Manzi alone claimed 11 race victories and 20 podium finishes on his way to the Riders’ title, while teammate Can Öncü contributed a further six wins – giving the R9 an extraordinary 17 victories from 24 races across the season.
The Manufacturers’ title was secured with three rounds remaining, and the Teams’ Championship followed to complete a clean sweep of all three crowns in the model’s very first year of competition – an exemplary start to the R9s run in elite competition.
While new to the domestic paddock for 2026, and several challenges ahead in overcoming the unique and demanding nature of UK circuits, the R9 arrives with an outstanding pedigree, and looks set to mount a competitive campaign in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship – spearheaded by former champion Ben Currie and top-ten contender Harry Truelove.
